Wednesday, 27.10. (Berlin
Night) On Wednesday evening,
we're especially looking forward to
the Berlin Band Dominique and
their live-premiere in Cologne. The
7(!)-member band has already
attained cult status with their live
performances on the Berlin art
scene (see Spex 09/04). And there
is no better venue for this premiere
than "rheinschau." The band
formed around singer, composer,
and keyboarder Dominic Eichler
just released its celebrated second
album: "The Same You" (Tete-a-
Tete). Their first release "Speak to

 |
me" already got one hooked with
its airy, swinging melancholy and
nonchalantly-romantic style. But
whereas "Speak to me" seemed a
little like a solo album by Eichler,
shyly accompanied by guest
musicians, Dominique has now
ripened into a real band. It brings
back memories of Belle &
Sebastian, and also Stephen Duffy.
And - to draw another parallel to a
band that, like Dominic Eichler,
comes from Australia - to the Go-
Betweens. Nevertheless, Dominique
spins such a tight and light net of
songs and sounds that it has to

 |
be described as unique - despite
all the comparisons. In today's
electronic environment, Dominique
makes it unmistakably clear why
gentle guitar music is still so
important in the lives of so many
people. Further info at:

The Berlin artist and DJ Julian
Göthe has been Dominique's
accomplice on the turntables many
a time. Tonight, too, he'll captivate
us with his distinctive mix of
vintage electronic, nouveau disco,
ballroom jazz and la musica
Americana. deutsch
